Talking to Yourself

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan” (Psalm 42:5-6).

Have you noticed you don’t ever need to work on worrying or being stressed out? It just comes to you. You don’t have to initiate it, you don’t have to remind yourself of it. It just happens. You wake up and the worries from the day before just arise.

Look at the verse of the day. Look at what David does. This is good practice. What is David doing? He is talking to his inner soul, his inner self. He is reorienting his mindset to who he is because of who God is. This doesn’t come naturally. This doesn’t automatically happen. You have to make it happen. You have to talk to your inner soul and mind to remind yourself who you are because of who God is.

David is telling himself, “You got God on your side. Why are you stressing out? Put your hope in God. Remember God. Remember who you are because of who God. is.”

This is something we must proactively do and choose. God-mindset doesn’t just happen. We have to choose it.

So as you go through this day, remember who you are because of who God is. And when your natural bent wants to take you down the rabbit trail of worry and stress, put your natural bent in its place by reminding it who your God is.
